When it comes to fashion, I’ve always been more of a “more is more” kind of girl. My walk-in* closet is, frustratingly, on the small side and often gets to the point where it’s bursting at the seams and I’m forced to pare down, if only so I can manage to actually stand inside. [*It’s really more of a “stand-in” closet.]
Recently I was chatting with a friend about how overwhelming it can be to have too many options. We were talk about paint colors but the sentiment applies to wardrobes, as well. If you have a closet stuffed full of clothing, it can actually be more difficult to find anything to wear than if you have a smaller wardrobe and fewer options.
So, when I find myself not being able to stand in my closet, I know it’s time to ruthlessly go through my wardrobe and pull out anything I haven’t worn in a year; anything that inspires “meh” when I see it on; anything that’s too big, too small; and anything I bought then immediately wondered why.
Ideally, what I’m left with is a wardrobe of clothing that I love and that works well together. It makes getting dressed every morning so much easier.
And then I go shopping again.
