Swiss bank UBS just released a 43-page dress code. 43 pages!
Having written a few dress codes in my life as a human resources director, I know the importance of having some rules in place to prevent belly shirts, miniskirts, plastic flipflops and tshirts with questionable messages from showing up in the workplace. It’s amazing what some people consider appropriate to wear to work.
But, in my experience, a couple of paragraphs and a short, bulleted list of example no-no’s is sufficient. Forty-three pages? That’s not a policy; that’s a freakin’ fashion manifesto. And not in the good sense of that phrase.
