In Defense of Color

My friend, Melissa Z., called the other day with a fashion quandary.  She was looking for a dress for a cocktail party but I’d vetoed her last two options and, frankly, she was getting a little cranky about it.  With just faintest hint of “I will cut you” in her voice, she asked if a dress she bought last year to wear to a wedding would be appropriate.

Me: The one-shouldered dress?  Yes!

MZ: But it’s coral –

Me: Yes!

MZ: And kind of royal blue –

Me: Yes!

MZ: Are you sure it’s not too colorful?

Me: Yes!

MZ: But it’s February!

Why do we think we can’t wear color in the winter?  What are we – Amish?  Wearing color this time of year is always such a fun alternative to the usual, drab palette of black and gray.

Case in point: it was 92 degrees in Austin yesterday (which does not bode well for the summer) and I busted out this lovely, coral dress from ASOS.com.

 And my snake-skin sandals.

Cuz I’m not Amish.

Ooohhh…somebody is rockin’ a hot little snazzy dress there!!

(And we are right now wearing the same nail polish! That makes me ridiculously hip!!)

    • I’ve been a fan of both ASOS and black nail polish for a long while now. Love the inexpensive, fun fashions and black nails allow my suburbanite self to pretend I’ve got some “edge”. Yo.
